This month, we have new classes, and two fantastic free fitness clinics for you. Plus, the new Cold Plunges have arrived! Have you had a chance to try them out yet?

February also brings the annual Kiwanis Community Fitness Day to the Club. We encourage you and your family to come on Friday, February 9 for a fun afternoon to benefit Kiwanis efforts to support children in our community.

New Class:

Cycle Gauges

Saturdays @ 7:45 AM

For all the early birds, Scott will be teaching Cycle Gauges at a new time on Saturday mornings through the winter months.

Cycle Gauges combines high energy programming and power based training to turn every class into a personalized session. Each bike measures heart rate, power, RPM and more to dial in your workout so that you get the best results possible from every ride - whether you’re a first-time indoor cyclist or a seasoned athlete.

This low-impact strength training class is designed for the active senior who wants to maintain and build strength for life. Work with a Personal Trainer, in a fun small group setting. We'll work to improve your balance, core strength, bone density and overall health.

Community Fitness Day

Friday, February 9

2:00 - 5:00 PM

We are proud to collaborate with Gold Country Kiwanis to host this great event. Please join us for an afternoon of fun and fitness, featuring keynot speaker, Dr. Joel Richnak, M.D., managing partner of Mountain View Rehabilitation Medical Associates. Dr. Richnak will be speaking on the topic of OrthoBiologics,  a revolutionary new approach to natural healing for joints and the body. Attendees can expect to gain valuable insights into harnessing the body's innate healing processes for optimal well-being.

This event is free and open to the community. Bring friends and family, and come enjoy food, beverages, community and wellness. All proceeds from the event will go to help Kiwanis efforts to aid and support children in the local community.

Warm Up & Cool Down

Led by SYC Trainer, Rachel Finegold

10:00 - 10:45 AM

Learn best practices for warming up before your workout, as well as cooling down after you’re done. Rachel will address active and passive stretching, myofascial release, correcting muscle imbalances and preparing for cardiovascular work, as well as flushing lactic acid to minimize next-day soreness. Demonstrations, practical application and Q&A time will be included in each session.

Free Fitness Clinic

Roll & Release Method

Led by SYC Instructor, Suzanne Sanger

In this workshop, you will use specially designed balls to release fascia. Freeing this network of connective tissue that permeates your body has profound effects in body-feeling, movement and proprioception. This work can help to relieve aches and pains, enhance breathing function, increase mobility and energy levels, reduce stress, and improve posture and performance. Try this proven approach to improving how you feel and how you perform!This workshop will be based on Jill Miller’s “Role Model” Self-Massage work.

Suzanne Sanger is certified in Jill Miller’s “Role Model” techniques, is a Kripalu-trained Yoga teacher, a certified Pilates Instructor, and a certified Kettle Bell instructor. She has studied and taught Kundalini Yoga and numerous forms of dance and movement, including expressive arts with Anna Halprin and the Tamalpa Institute.  Suzanne’s work, in all forms, is inspired by the rhythm of life and the beauty of nature.  Her intention is to create and hold a space where people can connect to and experience spirit and dive into their bodies.

COLD PLUNGES HAVE ARRIVED!

Take the plunge! South Yuba Club has become the first facility in Nevada County to offer cold plunges as part of a larger offering built around the concept of enhanced performance and recovery which also includes the sauna, steam room (Coming later this month), jacuzzi and pool. All of these modalities are designed to enhance the body's ability to recover from exercise, sports, and aid in relaxation and help to offload the stresses of daily life. Plunges are located on the jacuzzi deck.

Benefits of cold plunging include:

  • Enhanced mood & focus
  • Reduced inflammation & muscle soreness
  • Improved recovery & physical performance
  • Improved immune system
  • Improved resilience & stress management
  • Accelerated metabolism & improved cold tolerance 

Please keep these basic policies in mind when plunging:

  • IMPORTANT - Consult your doctor before using the cold plunge.Please SHOWER before entering the cold plunge and after SAUNA before entering the cold plunge.
  • The Sweet Spot for Cold Plunging is 30 secs to 3 mins. Start with just 30 seconds, listen to your body. You may slowly increase the duration if appropriate and safe.
  • No reservations necessary. Please use common courtesy and rotate usage. At this time we are requesting a maximum of 3 mins per person.
  • Temperature is preset and may change based on member feedback. Left tub is currently set at 55 degrees & the right tub is currently set at 45 degrees.

4:00 - 6:45

Have you heard that SYC is now offering evening childcare? Childcare is now available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 - 6:45 PM. 

Childcare is available for children ages 6 months - 8 years. We ask that members sign up in advance online, through your SYC app, or by calling the front desk.
