MEMBER SPOTLIGHT, BOBBIE

TRANSFORMATION
By Laura Stetser

She’s a navy wife who has lived some life and knows what it means to be strong. That strength saw her through a year caretaking her ailing husband who passed in April of 2020. When recalling that time, she shares that personal care took a back seat and her health went downhill. Lack of activity and eating well left her 45 pounds heavier and feeling sluggish and tired all the time. Her balance also began to suffer, and she worried about falling. Then, in October of 2020 she had back surgery and her already deteriorating condition spiraled even more so that even lifting a glass of water was difficult. Her inability to move, let alone move well and how quickly she found herself out of breath for even the smallest exertion, worried her. Coming from a family history of obesity and heart disease and having already lost too many family members, she says she had a pivotal moment where she thought “I’ll be dead by summer if I don’t do something.”

Calling on her strength and determination to change the course of her health, she joined South Yuba Club and began taking aqua aerobics. She loved the camaraderie and was soon taking three classes a week.  While it was helping, she knew she needed more, but she didn’t know what to do. Having no idea what to expect, but needing guidance, she signed up for Personal Training in March. Training twice a week with a Personal Trainer combined with her aqua aerobics class and really starting to dial in her nutrition, Bobbie has lost 20lbs since March and is beginning to feel more energy and ease of movement. She has big goals that include leaning out more for health and mobility, and someday soon, she wants to be able to play pickleball.

“Doesn’t matter your age, get in here. There are people here who know how to help. There is something here for everyone.”
