Aquatic Classes
You can enjoy the benefits of gentle 'resistance exercise' without stress on joints or previous injuries. Great for people who are deconditioned or have issues with knee or hip surgery. Finnish Sauna: The dry, hot heat of the Finnish sauna has been treasured for centuries. End your exercise routine with alternate trips to the sauna and showers in the pool area. VTAE Natural Products Used at the Club
All personal body care products used at the Club are VTAE Parfum and Body Care, a company founded by Belinda Rush-Carville in Nevada City ten years ago. These high-end, 100% natural products are sold nationwide to 3000 retail stores.
Most gyms could not afford to use such high-quality soaps and lotions, but we have made a major commitment to the quality of the Club and believe that our customers deserve the best, says Belinda. VTAE products can be found at the gym and the VTAE store on Commercial Street in Nevada City.

Oversized Lockers:
Do you remember how frustrating it is to try to stuff your clothing into small, cramped lockers? At the South Yuba Club you will find large lockers which fit "all your stuff".Also we have cubbies out on the main floor so you have a place to leave your workout bag in a handy place.

Precor Elliptical Trainers:
These machines give you a smooth, non-jarring workout so you can spend your time without the worry of impact to joints or connective tissues. Exercise those 'big' muscles for 5 minutes or 50 minutes without any joint stress.
Heart Rate Training:
Most of our cardio-vascular equipment has the ability to monitor your heart rate. You benefit from the heart rate feedback provided by these machines. You can guide your workouts and get greater improvement faster by understanding the principles of heart rate training. Stair Masters:
These are the best available steppers: the slow rotating staircase is a great workout and the design has stood the test of time.
Upright and Recumbent Bicycles:
These heart-rate monitoring bikes allow you to work as hard or easy as you like, to get the benefits of large muscle workouts while enjoying your favorite magazine or television show. SYC staff member, Nathan Hutson (right), often uses the recumbent bikes in his workouts. Free Checkout of Heart Rate Monitors: Your heart is a major indicator of your overall fitness and general health. One of the best ways to improve your health and longevity is to exercise with feedback from your heart. We have a supply of Polar Heart Rate Monitors at the Front Desk where you can check them out free of charge. It is the ultimate mind body connection. Wireless Television Rebroadcasts: At SYC, we rebroadcast TV stations so you can pickup the programs on your wireless walkman type FM radio. You're not tied to a cord like other clubs. You can listen during any workout anywhere in the Club.
Color-coded by Body Part:
Our machines are coded by body part so you easily know how the machines are used. For example: Yellow = shoulders, Red = Legs, Blue = Chest etc. There is a chart on the wall in case you forget the colors. You are more likely to use machines when their use is easily identified. LifeFitness Strength Equipment: The smooth action, fluid movement, ergonomic design means better workouts, greater gain for investment of time and more safety for joints and ligaments.

Hammer Strength:
No other club in Nevada City has these 'plate loaded' machines. The Hammer Strength equipment has smooth actions and simulates the correct movement of joints and limbs. This equipment is costly but it has proven its worth. Every NFL and NBA football team trains on Hammer Strength equipment because of its proven superiority. You have the best at your disposal.
Keiser Equipment:
This is a unique line of resistance equipment because it is more medically based equipment and is driven pneumatically. You can increase or decrease weight by one pound increments. Therefore you can tailor the resistance to your exact needs and minimize overloading.
Spinning:
Spinning is instructor-led, group exercise set to music on specialized bicycles. It is a wonderful cardio-vascular workout and lots of fun. Check out our new Spinning Studio with 20 bikes and sound system.

BodyPump:
This is instructor-led, group exercise to music with free weights. It is weight lifting with fun. You will gain strength, have fun, learn new moves, tighten arms, tone thighs and add vitality;and strength to your entire body. We pay a license fee each month to bring you new programming and we send our instructors to training seminars, but you have the benefits from this experience. Body Pump is unique to SYC in Nevada County.
Personal Trainers-on-Staff:
Most clubs do not have trainers on staff. They just allow trainers to hang out their cards and pay rent if they train someone. This is not good for customers. There are few checks on the quality of trainers and sessions. We interview, qualify and investigate our trainers to ensure they meet the standards we expect. When you hire a SYC trainer you are getting the best advise on how to improve your health and body. More about Personal Training...Trainers-on-Duty: We have trainers on the floor to answer questions and give you guidance. Just check the Group Exercise Schedule or ask the Front Desk for times. This is another SYC service free of charge to members.

Core Strength & Stretching Area:
You probably know that stretching is an important part of your fitness program. At SYC we have dedicated a special area of the mezzanine for individual stretching. You have a quiet area, special stretching equipment, exercise balls, pads and your private space. Only SYC has this service.
Group Exercise Classes:
The SYC has more classes per week and more classes per member than any other club in Nevada County. The benefits are greater convenience, more flexibility and greater class availability for all our members.
